About The Natural Plaster Company
The Natural Plaster Company was founded from a lifelong involvement with traditional buildings, plastering and conservation.
With over 30 years of practical experience in the plastering trade, our work has evolved from general plastering and decorative finishes into the specialist repair and conservation of historic buildings, with a particular focus on traditional lime plaster, mouldings and ornamental plasterwork.
Based in Cornwall, we have spent many years working directly with traditional materials, understanding not only how they are applied, but how they behave in real buildings.
From Plastering to Materials & Tools
The Natural Plaster Company has continued to evolve.
Years spent working with lime plaster, natural cements and specialist plastering techniques highlighted something we repeatedly encountered ourselves: well-designed specialist materials and tools aren’t always easy to find.
That experience led us to begin developing, sourcing and supplying our own range of traditional plastering materials and tools.
Today, alongside our specialist plastering and conservation work, The Natural Plaster Company supplies professional plasterers, conservation specialists, builders and owners of traditional buildings throughout the UK and beyond.
Our growing range includes traditional lime plasters, specialist mortars and renders, plastering tools and accessories, with a particular focus on hard-to-find tools for traditional, heritage and decorative plasterwork.
Many of these are tools that can be surprisingly difficult to source through conventional builders’ merchants and tool suppliers. Our aim is to bring together the specialist tools we know from the trade — from joint rules, small tools and Quirkers, to dentil tools, modelling tools and other less commonly available equipment — alongside the traditional materials they’re used with.
Everything we develop, source or supply is approached from the perspective of people who actually use these materials and tools.
Built on Practical Experience
We believe traditional materials are best understood through using them.
The knowledge behind our products hasn’t come solely from technical data sheets or laboratory testing. It comes from years spent on scaffolds, in workshops and on building sites — repairing old plaster, working over traditional masonry backgrounds and timber laths, running mouldings and finding practical solutions to the problems that historic buildings present.
That practical experience also informs the technical information and guides we publish.
Our aim is not simply to sell traditional materials, but to help people understand what they’re using, why they’re using it and how to use it successfully.

PLASTER AND CORNICE MOULDINGS
At the Natural Plaster Company we specialise in the design, manufacture and installation of traditional fibrous plaster cornice and mouldings.
WHAT IS FIBROUS PLASTER?
Fibrous plasterwork is made from Plaster of Paris (Gypsum) and Hessian fabric, reinforced with timber laths. Patented in 1856, it was one of the many architectural innovations of the Victorian period.
Used as a more cost effective alternative to traditional lime based decorative plasterwork. It could be manufactured off site, speeding up the construction times of lime based plasters that need a long period of carbonation.
OUR WORKSHOP
From our workshop near Falmouth we can provide a full design, manufacture and installation service of any architectural detail required, for both interior and exterior.
Over the past 20 years we have amassed an extensive range of period cornices, ceiling roses, corbels and mouldings, most of which have come from original Victorian and Georgian details from many of the counties finest houses.
REPAIR AND RESTORATION
As well as the production of new mouldings we can offer a full match existing service for damaged plasterwork. Whether it is fallen cornice due to water ingress or the loss of mouldings during renovation or alterations we can seamlessly match new into old using the original profiles and designs.
Taking in-situ profiles we can reproduce any original decorative plaster using appropriate traditional techniques.
