A Complete Three-Coat Lime Plaster System
Traditional lime plaster is normally applied in a series of coats, with each coat performing a different role.
Our lime plaster range provides a straightforward three-coat system from the first coarse base coat through to the final fine finish.
Base Coat Lime Plaster
Our coarsest lime putty plaster, designed as the first coat over traditional masonry, timber laths and other breathable backgrounds.
The Base Coat establishes the initial plaster thickness and provides a strong, keyed background for subsequent coats.
Float Coat Lime Plaster
The second coat in the system, used to further build, straighten and level the plaster surface before the finishing coat is applied.
Top Coat Lime Plaster
A fine lime putty finishing plaster used as the final coat of the traditional lime plaster system, producing a smooth traditional finish ready for breathable decoration once fully cured.
Why Use Traditional Lime Plaster?
Lime plaster has been used in buildings for centuries and remains particularly well suited to traditional solid-wall construction.
Unlike many modern plasters, lime putty plaster is vapour permeable, allowing moisture to move through the building fabric rather than becoming trapped behind less permeable finishes.
Lime plaster is also relatively flexible and works sympathetically with traditional stone, brick and timber construction.
